| The Forest Moon Ranch is located 8 miles west of the Sunnyside area (which is south of Lund, Nevada) in White Pine County. The ranch is adjacent to the Kirsch Wildlife Management Area, which is known for fishing and waterfowl. This is the old West at its finest, located between fabulous Las Vegas and Ely, Nevada, which is a unique community, and was a historic mining town at the turn-of-the-century. This area has it all: fascinating Nevada history, friendly people, mountains and a lot of water with green grass in growing season.
This is a working cattle ranch that is currently running 250 to 300 head of mother cows on irrigated meadows, pasture land, and ajoining BLM permits. The ranch contains approximately 1,000 acres of deeded land surrounded by a BLM cattle allotment which entails about 150,000 acres +/-. This allows a good portion of the deeded land to be available to grow hay to feed the cattle during the winter months. Of the 400 to 500 acres irrigated, approximately 100 acres are irrigated by a modern gravity-fed sprinkler system. The alfalfa hay was so tempting to large game animals that the Nevada Division of Wildlife opted to install eight-foot high fencing all around the property to keep the deer and elk out.
When you see this truly unique ranch, a number of images will come to mind, since it has wildlife, big game and many types of birds. No wonder, since it has numerous springs that originate on the property, one of which flows in such quantity so as to resemble a small river.
This historic and working cattle ranch has been owned by the same family for almost 60 years and it has retained the true western flavor that it was originally started with. Headquarters of the ranch has two comfortable homes, outbuildings and an airstrip complete with an aircraft hangar with an electric bi-fold door, all surrounded by huge hundred-years old cottonwood trees. The airstrip and hangar make coming to the ranch a quick plane ride for hunting, fishing and access to public lands, both Bureau of Land Management and U.S. Forest Service. You can drive to the ranch by way of paved Nevada Highways 93 and 318 or hop in an airplane as stated. Call Jim for more details or e-mail at dunnprop@cox.net
